Analysis of the Common Shapes of Vaginal applicator on the Market
Vaginal administration is the core method for treating gynecological diseases, and the shape of the delivery device directly affects the comfort of use and the therapeutic effect. Currently, the mainstream products on the market can be classified into the following six categories:
1. Traditional straight tube type (most popular)
Long and slender cylindrical shape, equipped with anti-slip push rods and circular drug outlet, made of transparent medical PP material. Suitable for most dosage forms such as gels, creams, and suppositories. The advantages are simple structure, low cost, and convenient operation; the disadvantage is that the head is relatively hard, and there is a foreign body sensation when using for the first time, and the drug delivery depth depends on manual control.
2. Duckbill type (preferred for cervical administration)
The head is in a flat duckbill shape, with rounded edges. When pushed, the drug is evenly distributed on the vaginal fornix and cervical surface. It is specially designed for cervical diseases such as cervical erosion and HPV infection. The advantages are wide drug delivery range and good drug adhesion; the disadvantage is that the head size is large, and patients with narrow vaginas may feel discomfort when inserting.
3. Bullet head type (friendly for beginners)
The head is round and smooth, with a natural transition from the head to the tube body, conforming to the physiological curvature of the vagina. The insertion resistance is extremely low, and the comfort is the highest. Suitable for beginners, patients with vaginal dryness, and daily care products. The advantages are excellent experience; the disadvantage is that the drug outlet is small, and high-viscosity gels may not be able to be delivered smoothly.
4. Airbag spray type (specific for foam agents)
Composed of a tube body, push rod, and tail airbag. After pushing the drug, squeeze the airbag to spray the drug evenly on the entire vaginal inner wall. Only suitable for foam agents and aerosols. The advantages are the most uniform drug distribution and the ability to reach the deep folds of the vagina; the disadvantage is a complex structure and high cost.
5. Curved type (precise delivery)
The tube body is made of flexible material, which can freely adjust the angle to 90 degrees, and can precisely deliver the drug to the posterior vaginal fornix. Suitable for patients with posterior uterine position and deep pelvic inflammatory disease. The advantages are extremely high precision of drug delivery; the disadvantage is that when pushing viscous drugs, the tube body may slightly deform.
6. Pre-filled integrated type (trend product)
The drug is pre-filled in the delivery device, with a sealed integrated structure, mostly in bullet head or modified straight tube type. When using, simply tear open the packaging and push it. Suitable for all dosage forms, especially for business trips. The advantages are no need to fill the drug, hygienic and safe, and precise dosage; the disadvantage is that the cost of a single unit is relatively high.
